These galleries contain images taken by (and of) my uncle, Gottfried Hogh.

Gottfried was born in 1939 in Horna Stubna, Slovakia, and emigrated to the United States in 1949. He attended Cass Technical High School in Detroit, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Wayne State University in 1960. Gottfried was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to study biology in Würzburg, Germany, and received an MA in entomology from the University of Kansas in 1964. After teaching biology at Northern Michigan University until 1972, Gottfried became a research engineer at Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, and retired in 1998. Gottfried's publications include articles on entomology, computer programming and design, and essays on automobiles and photography. He was also the holder of several patents.

After retiring, Gottfried pursued many hobbies: an expert in electronics, computer programming, and design, he devoted much time to his popular website; a gifted photographer, he honed his skills with sophisticated digital cameras; a passionate devotee of antique automobiles, he owned several antique cars and contributed many photographs to Auspuff Roar, the journal of the 356 Motor Cities Gruppe; and a devoted reader of ancient history, he collected rare books on Greece and Rome. Gottfried was also an enthusiastic traveler, having crossed Siberia on the Trans-Siberian Railroad, visited the Soviet Union several times, toured Greece, Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany and New Zealand, and traveled to every state in the United States, including every county in California.

Gottfried passed away suddenly on 30 July 2004 at his home in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Throughout his life, Gottfried was an avid photographer and Porsche enthusiast, and this gallery is intended to preserve his memory with a variety of images from his and my collections.
