I made a trip to Chattanooga to see a bird I've seen many times in TN, which I wouldn't do often. But, the unprecedented showing of White-winged Scoters in the mid-south due to the freezing of the Great Lakes, made this a must-do. There are White-winged Scoters all over the state (I had a few at Pace Point in early January), but the Chickamauga area at Chattanooga is far and away the epicenter, with daily counts of up to 100 bird recently (plus both other scoters and Long-tailed duck for a few days).
Thoroughly enjoyed my time here, with 60+ being my count for the day, plus the continuing young male Black Scoter, and 2 Red-throated Loons off of Vincent Rd. I spent a lot of time playing with a new digiscope camera, on its inaugural trip.
