Finistère is a region of France, in the extreme west of Brittany.
The name Finistère derives from the Latin “Finis Terræ”, which means “end of the earth”.
Quimper is the administrative capital of Finistère.
Bretons are of Celtic origin. The "founding fathers" of Brittany, immigrants from Cornwall, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales, settled in the area in the fifth and sixth century A.D. Brittany is one of the six Celtic nations. Its original language is not French, but rather Breton, a form of Gaelic.
While Brittany officially became part of France in 1532, the Bretons retained their unique Celtic customs and, to put it mildly, did not easily assimilate completely into the French culture.
