Quimperlé

Site Meter

We decided to go to visit Quimperlé for only one reason:
it was possible to get there by train from Quimper and we were rather fed up with the whimsical timetables of local country buses, which had taken us around Finistère.

Frankly speaking we had not any idea about what we might have found in Quimperlé and it was really a surprise in all possible sense of the word…
We arrived to the railway station but there was nothing and we were told to walk downhill to find the village.
We started walking and it started raining.
Obviously we had not any folding umbrella anymore since they had disappeared during the storm in Concarneau.
But the rain was light and not particularly disturbing, just gloomy.

Quimperlé straddles a hill and two rivers, the Isole and the Elle, cut by a sequence of bridges.
It's an atmospheric place, particularly in the medieval muddle of streets around Ste-Croix church. When we were there it was a bit sinister and practically desert, all closed.
In spite of that we have found a peculiar charm in the little town and we have liked it.

The photos of this gallery mean to be a report of our short visit.
