Shafer Trail: Cross-Country Descent to the Colorado River

After getting a taste of the terrain at the southwest edge of "Thelma and Louise
Plateau," I returned the next day to experience it in more detail.

From the end of the "road" on the plateau I found a route down into a canyon that
opened up at an interesting rock bench beside the Colorado River. From a distance
the terrain appeared to be "impregnable," but up close it posed little technical
difficulty (easy gradient and very little "exposure"). However, route-finding was
a challenge---a combination of getting general views of the land from above and
heading off in a particular direction to "see if this way will work." I loved it.
