Roadside memorials are tributes, usually on the shoulder of a highway, to people who have died in a motor vehicle accident. Most are installed by private citizens on their own initiative. The memorial normally consists of at least a cross and a name, but can also include flowers, trinkets, photographs, and home-made signs. Most honor single deaths, but occasionally one sees a set of two or three crosses clustered together.
