The tube

I like this composition because you can see the 'underground' logo which is how you know it is an underground station. We call the underground, the tube for some reason. The road is Charing Cross Road - this is one of London's specialist streets and one of my favourites because it's full of new and second hand bookshops. Alas though, many bookshops are closing and non-book shops are opening in their place so it's less apparent now.

The station is Leicester Square - this is the square where all the cinemas are and film premieres are usually in Leicester Square.

The Underground is the official name for the system. The Tube is a subset of lines that run deeper than the rest (Jubilee, Piccadilly etc) and were constructed buy tunnelling rather than ‘cut-and-cover’ (Circle, District, Hammersmith & City). The trains are different too. The tube trains are smaller and have rounded tops. The others are taller and square, more like normal trains.

Now, where is my anorak………….
