Kerlingarfjoll | Kerlingarfjoll is a 1.477 m (4.846 ft) tall mountain range in the Icelandic highlands near the Kjolur highland road. The mountain range is a part of a volcano system. You can see this clearly once you visit the area and encounter its many hot springs and rivulets. In addition, the area has a surreal feel to it, thanks to the bright red rhyolite mountains. |

 | 3 years passed already .(where the time goes ?) Authorities in Iceland have officially declared the country’s longest volcanic eruption in 50 years over. The spectacle drew hundreds of thousands of tourists despite Covid restrictions to witness its lava flows. This eruption, the sixth in Iceland in the past 20 years, became the longest recorded in half a century as it spewed lava for six months.Geldingadalsgos Volcano site ,self capture. No matter what I'll write, I won't be able to make you feel the same emotions I felt while standing there. It was my last day at the volcano and after five days the lava overflowed and broke the "walls" , arriving all the way till the bottom of the mountain where I was. |

Happy Halloween from Spooktacular Iceland |
 | The first of a few projects for me this year was a quick trip to Iceland to see the new volcano that was erupting there. A spectacular way to "re-enter" the world after 14 months of relatively limited travel. I'm normally a fan of tack sharp. But this was hot, and as a result much of this image is wavy and soft and distorted. The intense heat from the molten lava field creates a significant amount of distortion in the air. |
 | After a very long day up at the eruption, I checked the "aurora borealis forecast" - which might be the most Icelandic thing ever - and saw that it was very likely that we would get some northern lights. I ended up staying three more hours to wait for darkness, and had almost given up, when the first green shimmers appeared... As it was very late I only spend a few minutes taking some photos ,before joining the last few leaving the area. But it was totally worth the wait. |
The eruption might be over - but the memories will last forever. Seeing an active volcano was the number one thing I always want |

In the distance is visible, on Iceland mainland, Eyjafjallajökull, the Glacier of the Islands, that takes its name from the Vestmannaeyjar. at Bjarnarey there is a lodge ,while at Elliðaey (left ) there is a mystery of one of the world's loneliest house on remote island that has been empty for over 100 years |

 "A fiery dragon" |
 | Despite this being an otherworldly experience, it begins, like many adventures, in a car park. Ever since the Gerlingadalur eruption began on March 19, 2021, Icelanders—and now vaccinated international visitors such as myself —have made pilgrimages to see the lava spew, bubble, and flow across this stretch of the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwestern-most Iceland. What’s astonishing is that this once-in-800-years display of nature’s force is only a 45-minute drive south of Reykjavík. It’s even closer to Keflavík Airport, the largest airport in the country—a mere 20 minutes by car. Imagine that: an active volcano one would deem “accessible.” You could land in Iceland in the morning from the United States (there are flights from Boston, JFK-NYC, and Washington, D.C., as of May), await your negative COVID test results at a nearby hotel, and once cleared, see the volcano erupt in the same day. |
