HI,
Bugguide is a great site, I use it all the time.
I was also thinking it was a Great Blue Skimmer but I thought the color was not just right. Could be that it was taken in bright sunlight and sometime that's makes using color as an ID a little more difficult.

Hi Ronnie: For some time I have greatly admired your work. Thanks also for your comments about the ID of this specimen. I think you are correct that this is not a Blue Dasher. Unfortunately, I am not sure about the ID. I checked the Slaty Skimmer out at Bugguide.net but the abdominal and wing markings just didn't seem to match. I will post this specimen on Bugguide and perhaps one of the experts will sign in. Thanks again and I look forward to more of your outstanding images.

Hi Lewis,
I came across your galleries sometime back. Since we both shoot in the deep south, I have some interest in your images. I live just East of Baton Rouge.
I'm pretty sure this is not a Blue Dasher. Here is an image I took of one a week or so back:

Could possibly be a Slatty Skimmer but not positive from this angle.
Here is a Slatty I took a few years back.
