It has been distributed widely by humans and is now naturalized almost worldwide.

Hi Lewis.
From faraway Australia I think I recognise this one - it grows here as an innocuous garden weed - the Scarlet Pimpernel (Anagallis arvensis). Comes in a form with royal blue flowers as well - the Blue Pimpernel. Excellent photo of it.
