In the hardwood tree

Glaucomys volans
The Southern Flying Squirrel is the smallest of all tree squirrels
with a typical body weight of 2-4 ounces. The squirrel is distinguished
by the loose fold of skin called a patagium between the wrist of the
fore and hind legs.
This squirrel was photographed in a vacant bluebird box.
