I began and ended my circular exploration of the Czech Republic in Prague. I decided to spend my final days at the reasonably-priced, architectural gem Hotel Evropa. The hotel uses a v in place a u following classical tradition when v was used for both sounds. Located near the center of the west side of Václavské náměstí (Wenceslaus Square), the building was originally built in 1872, expanded in 1889, and then rebuilt between 1903 and 1905 in the contemporary Art Nouveau style by Alois Dryák (1872-1931) and Bedřich Bendelmayer (1871-1932). Among others who participated was Ladislav Šaloun (1870-1946), the most prominent Czech sculptor of the era.

I am adding photos of the adjoining Hotel Meran to the gallery. I can find no information on who designed the building. I do know that it was built between 1895 and 1906. Because it was finished the year after the Evropa, some similarities make me believe that those involved in the design of the Evropa were hired to built the façade of the Meran.
