Viceroy butterfly larva (Limenitis archippus)

Reveler Conservation Area

This is one of 7 Viceroy caterpillars, all on trembling aspen seedlings. i was told that if these larvae are feeding low, close to the ground, they are Viceroy butterflies, but if much higher up, they are likely White Admiral butterflies. Otherwise, the caterpillars of the two species look just about identical.
