Eastern comma butterfly larva (Polygonia comma)

Reveler Conservation Area

I photographed this on 28 July when it was just a tiny little creature, black with white spikes http://www.pbase.com/image/160881800). I was able to relocate it in the same elm tree, and it has gone through a number of instars since then. Here is the butterfly it will become: http://www.pbase.com/image/161201749

Does not look like a benign variety. Excellent close up and those spikes are intriguing. Perfect detail. Vote.

Great close up with these details. Great with these colros, markings and shadows. "V"
