Two's company

Photographed these two on my fence in the back yard. The one at the back was nuzzling the one in the front, very cute. These "black" squirrels are really the melanistic form of the grey squirrel, and while the grey coloured ones are more common further south of Ottawa, the black ones are much more common up this way. Speculation as to why focuses on the the theory that the melanistic colouring helps them to retain heat better.
