Mt Pleasant Graveyard

The discovery of Emma B. and Iva C. Clark, deceased daughters of John A. Clark and Lydia Margaret 'Maggie' Small.

Emma was born September 14, 1907 and died three months later. Iva was born two years later, April 20, 1909 and died March 19, 1921 of
complications from diptheria. Finding these two graves was key to unlocking further information on Maggie's family. Subsequently we
learned through death certificates and U.S. Census data from 1910 and 1920 that the L. on the two headstones is Lydia. Maggie's mother,
Polly Small, had sisters, one named Lydia and another Margaret for which Maggie was likely named. Additionally, Polly's grandmother is
Lydia Hayden, daughter of Lottimore Hayden.

Maggie also had an older daughter, Lillie, born October 4, 1894. Lillie married John Wesley Jones and they had a daughter, Eva, born
August 6, 1915, and a son Chester in 1924. Subseqently Eva died of cholera April 2, 1928, age 12 years. Lillie died May 28, 1943
of a self-inflicted 12 gauge gunshot wound to the chest. She was forty-seven. At the time she was divorced from her husband and had been
living with Maggie for two weeks. On Lillie's death certificate her former husband was listed as deceased . Maggie's address was given
as RR#4, Carlisle and Lillie's as RR#3, Carlisle. Lillie is buried in the Carlisle Cemetery.

Maggie and John subsequently moved to Shawhand, off US 27 between Paris and Cynthiana, in Bourbon Co. John died two years later
November 29, 1951 at the age of eighty-six and is buried in Millersburg Cemetery. Maggie was listed as eighty at the time,
born January 1871 (the 1900 US Census lists 1876 which is an error and would have made her 75 and in the wrong order on Albert &
Polly's 50th wedding anniversary family photo). John was born December 21, 1865, at the end of the Civil War. When he was three years
old his family relocated from Hutchinson, just north of the Fayette-Bourbon Co line off US68 to Headquarters. Best data to date
indicates Maggie (or 'Lettie') died three years after John and was also buried in the Millersburg Cemetery, Section E just to the
right of the entrance, as listed on the cemetery's books. However we have been unsuccessful in locating their physical graves.
