Moses Sharp Cemetery

Moses Sharp provided the land to the city which bears his name, that is Sharpsburg. George's deed gives the northern boundry
of his land as Fleming Pond, located approximately where the water tower stands, adjacent to today's Sharpsburg cemetery, Crown Hill.
The southern boundry appears to spill into Montgomery County and is stated at 1,000 acres lying between Somerset and Flat Creeks,
not including the land that George already owned. It is possible that George's land includes the location of Sharpsburg's Crown Hill Cemetery.

is located in the upper right hand corner. A portion of the field appears to form a pointer to the cemetery!

Hello! My name is Christi Crump, and I work at the Bath County Memorial LIbrary in Sharpsburg. We are creating a display of Sharpsburg historical memorabilia and items. Would it be OK if we were to print out a few of your pictures from the Sharp Cemetery and use them in our display? Since Moses Sharp was the town's namesake, we felt it would be fitting to include him in our display. We would greatly appreciate it!

Moses Sharp would have been my fifth great grandfather on my mothers side. My aunt is the last of the Sharps in my family as she never has married. I have traced my side back to Moses but want to verify what I have is correct. Moses child that I have traced back to is Mary Sharp. I was hoping someone would have information from her down so I can verify that indeed what I have is the correct lineage. Thanks so much. Deanna Hanna

My name is Ronald Edward Sharp of Des Moines, Iowa. I'm in the line of Sarg Willaim Sharp who was from England and came to James Town in 1609. I have traced my family from virgina to Ohio to Iowa and I think some some Sharps went to Kentucky. Could this be part of the Sharp line that I'm talking about? Ron Sharp

Moses Sharp was also my great, great, etc. grandfather, and I was born and raised in Sharpsburg. His Bible {with handwritten births/deaths} was donated to the Historical Society in Mt. Sterling, Ky. I have the family tree dating back to England, complete with birthdates, deaths, etc. if anyone is interested.

Hi. I need to know about who cleaned the Sharp cementary up and around Moses grave? Also, I would like to know about the Fleming Pond. I am the great great great grandfather thru my mother's side. Her mother was a Sharp and was also related to the Flemings. I have a lot of information including a picture of Moses Sharp, also including his payroll from the Revolutionary War and a full copy of his entire Will. I'm happy to see someone has recognized this historical site. I grew up in a house in front of the cemetary. My brother and I actually discovered it while hunting in the small wooded area that is now the field surrounding the cemetary. Great work!

Thank you so much for the work you are doing on the old Sharp Cemetery. I have a 40 year old picture of it and there are no trees or vines. It is just out in a field. I will try to send you my report of the Moses Sharp family which is generated by my genealogical software. It will give you quite a bit of info about those people buried there. Moses Sharp is my 4th great-grandfather through his son Dr. Richard Sharp. I have done a lot of research on this family. Thank you again, Nancy Englerth, Bismarck, ND. If I do not find a way to attach my report, send me a reply and I will reply with the report attached. It is a 9 page report which can be loaded into any word processor.

I came across this site tonight. Moses Sharp was my great great great great Grandfather through my Dad's mother. She was a Kincart but her mother was Mary Elizabeth Sharp. This was so cool to see his headstone! Thanks to all the volunteers who have taken on this task and to John for the photos! THANK YOU. Steve Metzler, Kansas City, Missouri
