10.9.09 BREAKING NEWS. Yesterday we found Lemuel Small on yearly tax records living alongside his brother, Albert Small.
So who is the Lemuel Small below? One thought: Lemuel M. Small, for Lemuel Moses Small? The original Union record shows
what appearst to be an M. for the middle initial but was later transcribed as a D. Moses died during the Civil War and we
have not found his grave to date.

Lemuel Small (1841-1863) is Moses and Harriett George Small's eldest child. Family history tells us that Moses (1817- ) was killed in view
of his family by raiders during the Civil War. Raiders were known to have been in his vicinity in 1863. H.W. Small stated that Moses is buried in
Bethlehem Cemetery, Barefoot, Kentucky. This cemetery is overgrown with many damaged, missing or buried headstones.

Lemuel was located in a Union prison, downtown Lousiville on Broadway between Eleventh and Thirteenth Avenue.

A prison log entry states he 'not sent' to a more secure prison further north. Two weeks later died and was buried in the CSA section of Cave Hill Cemetery.
He was captured in the battle of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and we speculate he died from related injuries or illness three months later.
