Lottimore Hayden constructed this, the oldest brick house in Nicholas County, in 1796-7. He migrated from New Jersey, was reportedly
well to do and arrived with slaves. According to Bob King, a Hayden descendant, 'William Hayden, Lott's father, along with five of his
sons served in the Revolutionary War. For his service, he and his sons were given property in KY, PA & WV. The Lott Hayden property in KY
was a part of this original land grant.
'The basement was used for disciplining the slaves. I found shackles there in 2001, but on returning in 2005, they had been removed.
The slaves quarters were outside & to the north of the house. I found a small corner of the original structure remaining & photographed
it, but it has been bulldozed since. I'm attaching a photo of the front of the house before the restoration. To put the Hayden Farmhouse
in a timeline, it was built when Geo. Washington was president ...'
The house is currently undergoing private restoration by its new owner. The first three rows from page one were taken in 2008, excepting
the last two images dating before the current restoration. The 2009 photos start from the fourth row on page one and continue thru page five.
