Albert & Polly's homeplace was known. However the only image we have is approximately 88 years old, taken on their 50th wedding anniversary.
H.W. Small, my father, born November 1918 is in the photo, age approximately 2 years. Albert died approximately four years later in 1924.
Polly lived until 1941. We started the search from the road, passing through a gate and along a previous driveway that David, born November 1938, recalled.
The distance to the house was unknown as David was no more than three years old at his latest visit. After a seemingly substantial distance we were ready
to stop, not having found evidence of the house. Just before turning around we noticed that the steep hillside up from the road to our left,
where the house would have been located, gradually lessened. We also noted a clump of trees that stood out somewhat from the surrounding
overgrowth. When we entered that clump we found the remains of the foundation and stone walls seen in the 1920 photo included in this gallery.

We started our walk back by first crossing the creek bed below the house onto what was then Hayden Small's farm. We noticed his house
was at the top of this hillside and, most importantly, appeared to the be same as the one seen in the only photo we have at the time of
his death. Six of his seven sons, including Hayden, are seen carrying the casket and in the background is Hayden's house based on
our observation today! That photo is also in this gallery. Therefore the photo was of Albert being taken from his house, where the funeral
or a wake had occurred to be transported to the Bethlehem Cementary where he is located today. A photo of his presnet day grave site is also included.
