This gallery comprises a master list of all plant species on the site. Photos are labeled with the common name
first, using Corelli/Jepson/Audubon respectively, followed by the scientific name.* The first level of sorting is
by family, with a gallery for every family. Family galleries are arranged alphabetically by the family's scientific
name; these may be hard to remember but several common names are added to aid the process. Within the
family galleries, sorting is alphabetical by genus, then species.

Dicot/Monocot suborders are not separated. Non-flowering plant families may be grouped at a higher level (eg,
Gymnosperms, Pteridophytes, etc). Placing the common name first makes the labeling as user-friendly as possible.
The alphabetizing by genus within galleries is reasonable if only because there is no good alternative -- there is
too little agreement re vernacular names of plants.

If you don't find a gallery for a given family, try the last two "Misc" collections.

* Folksy names are eschewed if they're meaningless and a better alternative exists; for example, "Farewell-to-Spring" is
discarded in favor of the much better "Winecup Clarkia,” and the common “deerweed” is replaced by “California Broom”
because a) it is not a weed, and b) it IS a broom, and a California native too. The name "Ithuriel's Spear" [stupid]
is retained, however, because of its widespread use.
