26-JUL-05

Was going for very shallow depth of field, but I think I overdid it! But, I'm short on time, so here it is!
Busy packing for a trip to Las Vegas! Leave tomorrow, so I won't be able to upload any photos for a week!

...I'll be testing out that "no humidity - temperatures don't feel that bad" theory!!!
Coming from dripping in humidity Pittsburgh, I'm counting on that to be true! ;-)
Anyway, I'll play catch up with PAD in a week!
Hope to photograph some ghost towns while I'm out there. They are air conditioned, aren't they?!!

Have a great week everyone!

Stunning shot. I like the blurred places and the focusing. Bravo.

Mindy, great subject and idea, but it didn't really work at all. The colour is great, but the lack of clarity doesn't allow this one to shine. The bright bits at front and left also detract. I'm sure you could have nailed this if you'd had time and tried a few more settings, especially narrower apetures than whatever you used. When you're close to a subject, the DOF is already small because DOF is proportional to subject (focus) distance. Longer FLs also produce small DOF. You don't need to open up excessively wide to produce a fairy limited DOF with your 100mm macro lens up close, as you've seen here.
Look forward to your ghost town shots. :^)

Great colours and what is in focus gives meaning to the picture. Well done.

Nice shades of yellow. Have a wonderful time in Vegas...and good luck.

Beautiful yellow color. I went to Vegas a couple years ago in the summer. From my experience, an oven is an oven regardless of whether it is a dry heat or not! Hope you had a good trip.

LOL at Laine's take on the humidity. Love this Mindy-the dof works for me, and you nailed the yellows. I've heard they have misters lining the street like in the supermarket produce section :) Have fun, but not too much, with the one armed bandits.

A wonderful explosion of yellow... very nicely done... safe journey!

I have on good authority that all ghost towns have central air.. in case I am wrong, you might want to take a hand fan! Have fun! BTW, great shot!

Pack moisturizer.

I have lived in both conditions Mindy & dry heat means the soles of your feet burn off when you hit the pavement, but your makeup stays on your face not down on your chest where it slipped :>)

Still a very nice up close shot. Have a good trip.

Notoriously difficult pictures to take! Thank goodness for digital. This is lovely.

Can't wait to get a macro, this is so yellow. I Loved Vegas! (But only for few days, then I'd had enough of it's over-the-topness!) You should get some wonderful shots.
Guest 26-Jul-2005 21:19

Wow - very shallow DOF but great result. Enjoy Las Vegas - the heat isn't too bad (even for a Brit!).
