A detail of the life-size plaster cast of the west portals of the Abbey Church of Saint Gilles, Gard, France from the French Romanesque Period: 12th Century A.D. At some point I want to shoot the entire façade, it’s something to see! One of the interesting things to note about this structure is the fact that many of the architectural details, such as the columns and cornices, do not match. The original was built from the rubble of other, older churches and temples. Also note the Saint’s face has been knocked off by some ancient invader.
