The Arboretum. Last year we had big flocks of pine grosbeaks and bohemian waxwings around Ottawa and they descended on these trees and by end of January there was not a crabapple to be found. At the moment they are still full of fruit. It may be that the fruit on these trees is more palatable after it has been frozen, because some trees are stripped of fruit immediately, others like these ones, retain fruit until about January or later before birds and squirrels begin to eat it.
