(pavo muticus)
A stunning bird with its long train tail with colourful ocelli. Due to poaching its numbers have been seriously reduced and it can now only be found in protected areas. These photographs were taken at the Huai Han Krai Royal Project. There are some captive birds here but the bird photographed is a wild free flying male which was displaying to its female captive audience.
In my standards, I would call this a different species. Recent research done on Pavo muticus suggests the separation into several species (Kermit Blackwood et al.). This is Pavo imperator siamensis.
