(mulleripicus pulverulentus)
The largest woodpecker in the world except, perhaps, for the Ivory-billed. We heard these birds calling distantly from near the Hew Suat waterfall in Khao Yai National Park. Unexpectedly they responded to a tape call and flew in to some tall trees 250 metres away - or maybe they were coming our way anyway. Three birds then gave a bizarre display of wing flapping and calling from the highest branches. Rather distant digiscoped images in fading light.
