Views Mahajanga and Ankarafantsika

For our final leg of the trip we flew from Tana to Mahajanga in the north west of Madagascar and from there drove inland for a couple of hours to Ankarafantsika NP. We were staying at a brand new hotel in Beamilaka called the Blue Vanga Lodge - in fact we were the first guests to stay there. Let us just say that there were a few teething problems. The best known area of Ankarafantsika NP is the Ampijoroa Forest Station area one of the most reliable sites for Madagascar Fish Eagle and Schlegel's Asity - though we had already had good views of these earlier on the trip. It is also a great place to see Coquerel's Sifaka right in the camp site. After returning to Mahajanga we had our last day in the field doing a boat rip on the Betsiboka Estuary to look for Bernier's Teal and to visit the lighthouse area at Katsepy.
