Chemla-Lamèch named some craters after notable people he knew from Corfu, where he had founded the Corfu Observatory in 1924.
This particular crater was named "Stephanides", after Theodoros Stephanides.
However, in 1935 the IAU (International Astronomical Union) didn't accept this designation; it was designated 302 "Römer A". Current ID: 12652 (2006).
Theodoros (or Theodore Philip) Stephanides (1896-1983) was a Greek-British doctor and polymath. He was also known as a naturalist, biologist, astronomer, poet, writer and translator.
He also named some craters after notable people he knew from France.
This particular crater was named "Touchet", after Émile Touchet.
However, in 1935 the IAU (International Astronomical Union) didn't accept this designation; it was designated 383 "Maury A". Current ID: 11247 (2006).
Émile Touchet (1874-1944) was a French astronomer and photographer.
