Joop's Dog Log - Wednesday Feb 25

Going out in my human`s old Chevy today, the `scoundrel car` with the bars.
My human was upset last night when we heard that, after the Californian gouvernater,
now GWB himself has joined the fight against same-sex marriages.
In our house nobody is gay. But some of my human`s friends and collegues are.
Most have relationships. Many gay humans take good care of each other.
They live in houses. They have dogs. They feel responsible.
In my country they can get married if they want to, to make it official.
Dutch humans believe most married people make fine citizens.
And GWB should know better. His VP-human Cheney has a daughter, Mary, who is gay too.
She`ll never be able to marry, if GWB gets his way. Sad, huh?

TOO many RULES!!!! Rules against this, rules against that. Can't take a dog to church, can't get married, can't, can't, can't.

people are people, even if we have different `body parts`. why sould this stop people from showing they love each other? it is way too petty!

It is very sad, Joop. I think a lot of it is about inheritance taxes and lawyer fees. The Republican Right tries to make it about god and the church but I think that is a lot of blue smoke and mirrors! It is all so silly. My moms do all the good things humans are suppose to do and they pay lots of taxes to people who tell them they are not good enough. Makes me want to bite someone! . Give your human a smooch for me for caring! You look nice in the scoundrel car, and pretty safe, too

Hi, Joop! You have the back seat all to yourself! Nice! ;-)
Horrible news, indeed. I am so ashamed of my country`s leaders. Just ONE reason (out of many) why I am immigrating to Europe (also, to be with `Libertyvalance` in Antwerp). I feel like America is sinking and that I need to jump ship. I suppose that is "escapism" but I don`t know how else to handle it, frankly.

So true joop... I know a lot of gay people and they are some of the most well read, fun people i know,,
But you know, in India, it`s even worse. I think many indians wouldn`t accept gay marriages as well.. which is a big shame,,

What puzzles me the most about GWB, joop, is that while there are serious problems to be addressed - terrorism, the economy, unemployment, dangerous flus, famine, war - he is fixated on discriminating against people who are no problem at all - they only want to love one another and say "I do."

just discrimination!!!
I know some gay people and they are wonderful, love their dogs and help a lot of poor people, they mest have the same rights of all. I only don`t accept that gay people adopt childrem, but they must have the same rights.

Thank you, Joop, for your intelligent perspective on GWB`s antics.
I myself am a gay woman, and am very unhappy about what he is doing. My partner and I have been together for 10 years, we love each other very much. (Alas, we don`t have a dog because we live in a NYC apartment and it wouldn`t be fair to the dog to be cooped up so much.)
It is very scary to have the president of our country saying things against us like this.
You are a smart AND handsome dog, Joop, and I like visiting your fotolog.

Moin Joop, we are late today.Bosslady read your today`s statement this morning, but hesitated to write in a hurry cause this topic is highly sensible for her. With the backround of the "make love not war" generation she refuses to accept this steps back into the past. Everybody need somebody to love and as a German she would never see again so-called minorities being treated bad.....all those fights against racism and for sexual freedom for EVERYBODY in every way he likes can not have been in vain....

Right on, Joop. I have some very wonderful friends that are gay. One couple has two beautiful children that are smart and loved and well cared-for. Those kids have a better home than most of the kids at the school where I teach, and their house is filled with love. How can that be wrong? It may not be for everyone and it isn`t for me, but who am I to tell other people who to love?
Sometimes being an American is very, very hard.

Joop, I have never been more frightened for my country. The current administration is more of a danger to the freedoms of the U.S. than the 9/11 terrorists were. They are cynically expanding the gap betwen rich and poor (with their friends and contributors as beneficiary) while keeping the Christian right happy with the prospect of forming a police-state theocracy -- one religion, theirs. And that`s just domestic policy! Foreign policy ... oh, I won`t start.
It`s amazing how quiet traditional conservatives are on the issue of gay marriage. They want the government out of "our business" when it comes to regulating polution, to development, or fair labor or trade, but are quiet when it comes to this issue. What business is it of anyone`s when two loving people with to marry?

I agree with you and your humans, Joop. I think that if two people love each other enough to commit their lives to one another, they should be allowed to do so. I have yet to be convinced in the least by those in favor of banning same-sex marriage. I agree with Gina that the government is moving this country in the wrong direction. Here`s hoping we can change that in November!

Well, Joop, your human has done it again...opened for discussion something I think we in America with any sensibility and intelligence are deeply ashamed of: our president`s call to modify our Constitution to discriminate against a whole group of people. It is just too upsetting...never in the history of our wonderful country has this been done. The ammendments to the Constitution have always been to protect rights. Now bush, in his usual divisive and immoral way, is again trying to harm people, to polarize a nation already uncomfortable and edgy with each other. HE MUST BE DEFEATED IN NOVEMBER. It is just too horrid to think about. There used to be this `saying` back in the 60`s...take away the rights of one group, and your group may be next. And there is truth to that. After gays who will bush to after.

This is just a smoke-screen issue for W to try to distract from the real issues of his failed policies and to appeal to his right wing fans. On top of all this we have to deal with Mel Gibson`s horror show
