Joop's Dog Log - Tuesday Feb 17

Many plants and bushes in our garden think it’s Spring already.
To those of you who keep asking me about Dutch Winters I say: I don’t know if there’s going to be more snow and ice.
So far there haven’t even been any big open air ice skating events yet, and that’s very unusual.
Nothing much in the forecast either. February is supposed to be our coldest month of the year.
But right now we see Spring flowers breaking out everywhere. Look at these purple crocusses, they are a month early.
If we do get a real cold spell there’s going to be some damage to the plants.

I can see you`re surprised that those crocus are up so early...will, hopefully it won`t get so cold that the delicate plants are harmed. Even though it`s some serious thought you`re having about those plants, I can still see your tail wag.

We are having a warm winter, though it is still cold for me! My tummmy and feet get very cold, guess because I am so low to the ground! We have so daffodil poking their little heads out of the ground. I think a frost will hurt them, too. You are looking good, my friend.

Here too, Joop, altho I guess it`s not so unusual to see Spring this early in Humboldt County. Still, it seems early to me. Global warming, you say? I try not to think about it, personally. I try not to think of those things that are depressing, which, frankly, leaves me little to think about, if you read the paper anyhow. Hey, maybe Bush will lose and the world will change for the better. Now that`s something good to think about!

Moin Joop, lots of nice flowers, snow drops in your garden..our Bosslady is not only a bad housewife....she has no bookkeeping for the plants growing in our djungle garden and very often new plants appear we never saw before...she always says that every flower, bush and tree must have a chance....wild garden life in spring in Güster. Our job is to mark and mark and mark...and sometimes we kill plants this way...

Hi Joop (and Henk),
Sounds like a mild winter for you this year. That`s OK, the flowers smell so good in the spring!
The frogs are croaking at the creek already here!! What a noise from such a small creature! But they`re tasty for ducks and egrets to eat!

Joop, there are a lot of flowers up awfully early there. Our daffodils are starting to poke their heads out of the ground, but they often do that here — they can`t wait to come out. But we might be getting a little more snow tonight — we`ve had more than usual this winter ...
