'War Zone': Capitol Hill After Destructive Thunderstorm

Washington, D.C., was hit with a powerful thunderstorm late in the evening of September 3 that was especially destructive in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. Its 70 mph winds accompanied by almost constant lightning left countless felled trees blocking streets and sidewalks, downed limbs on every block, flooding and and damaged cars and houses in its wake. The city government has received 1,100 emergency requests for downed tree and limb removal across the city, with many of them coming from battered Capitol Hill residents.
