Viaduct Hotel, Relay, Maryland (1873)

The Viaduct Hotel opened for business in 1873 and acted as an overnight stop for guests traveling though the region. The eastern side of the station provided agent and ticketing services, while the west side had a four-story accommodation for guests (although the model only has three floors). The hotel closed in 1938 and was demolished in 1950.

Building materials include acorn caps, willow, royal Poinciana fruit, pine bark, monarda leaves, sea grape leaves, mahogany fruit and cinnamon.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.

*****

We went to the United States Botanic Garden’s Season’s Greenings exhibit titled “All Aboard,” which showcases historic train stations from around the country made almost entirely from plant materials.

Astonishing how this was created out of the objects you mention. It is entirely beautiful, and I love your shot of it. V

Reminds me of the Gingerbread House Competition held at Biltmore in Asheville. It used to be free to see it, but now they charge a $20 parking fee, half of which goes to charity. The creativity was astounding and fun to see.
