Lahaina Station, Maui, Hawaii (1970)

The Lahaina, Kaanapali & Pacific Railroad, now known as the Sugar Cane Train and a tourist attraction, transported cut sugar cane from field to port.

Building materials include pine bark, pinecone scales and cattail in the roof and winged euonymus twigs, ash bark and bamboo in the siding.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.

*****

We went to the United States Botanic Garden’s Season’s Greenings exhibit titled “All Aboard,” which showcases historic train stations from around the country made almost entirely from plant materials.

It looks so wonderfully primitive in the jungle, yet not so long ago.
