The Logan School (1892), now condominiums

I can’t find much information on the Logan School except that it was built in 1892 and converted to a condominium in 1984, one of the earliest of such conversions. When the lofts come on the market, they sell (or sold) for something under $400,000. That’s a bargain in this neighborhood!

Quite by chance I came across listings for a new building by Eastern Market, not far from our house. Rather than preserve an older school (which in truth might not have been worth preserving), developers tore it down and built a large complex in its place. The monthly RENT runs from $2,738 to $10,333 for 1-3 bedrooms (with the most expensive unit measuring 2,300 square feet). I can’t even imagine who would or could pay that much to rent what is essentially an apartment…

I love the turret and trim work. I'm glad that I don't have to pay that kind of cost. Was such extensive use of brick because of lack of availability of wood, or for its strength and insulative properties? V!

I wonder what they used to top of the tower for when it was a school - make for a neat room for a condo. Super shot V

Wonderful old building! I am glad they preserved it! Here, most of the old buildings were torn down and replaced with plain, ordinary designs. I think the IQ is outstanding! V

I like the POV you shot this from as it gives me a good view of the environment. The architecture is so nicely styled.
