Indian Chief motorcycle, 1948

We also visited the National Museum of the American Indian, a relatively new Smithsonian museum that I had visited after it first opened. I remember not liking it much then, and still am not enamored with it, although some of the displays are interesting.

A classic, the Indian is considered the most stylish of mass-produced motorcycles. The company’s first advertising executive said, “No more popular or wealth-producing name could have been chosen.” This model’s fender ornament is an Indian figure with headdress.

So they have a museum just for Indian motorcycles or actual American Indians? Great shot of that very desirable bike. ~V~
