Woman in burqa

This woman from the Emirates was holding a visitor’s child for pictures. She is wearing a traditional burqa seen most commonly in Oman.

One of a series of images taken in the pavilion of the UAE, the guest country at the festival. Another that I particularly liked from the UAE pavilion was titled “Henna artistry” (below).

NOTE: We have just heard that a huge sand storm is heading our way. I have no idea what that will do to our Internet connection, to say nothing of our lungs, but probably nothing good. Just in case I’m offline for a few days…

I hope you make out ok with the storm. I haven't seen a burqa like that. Very nicely captured.

Is that a mortar and pestle for grinding the items at the right?

A very different looking burqa ! And, I wonder what that is in front of her - looks a bit like a cheese ??? V
PS Hope the sandstorm isn't too bad

That certainly is a strange looking thing. Does not too comfortable to me. Good luck with the sandstorm. V

This is certainly a strange burqa which looks almost medieval. I'm not sure whether it's more or less disconcerting that the ones which cover the face completely. V

Clearly the baby isn't afraid. I, on the other hand, find the mask quite grotesque. What a protected life I've had!

Intriguing face mask and looks the little girl is quite engaged with what the lady holds in her in her palm. What is the cake like stuff on the carpet? V

I've never seen that before. It's very interesting and I wonder if it's symbolic in some way. Great portrait and cute little one. V.

very interesting. V
The burqa seems others than I know, like a partial mask to protect against the storm ... Was that the initial purpose of a burqa ... ?
Hope the storm will pass without causing much problems...

The little one seems happy!
Hope the storm misses you.
