First of all, his name his Phillip. Second of all, disregard any comment that "Carlito" has made regarding Uncle Phillip. He obviously has mistaken my Uncle Phillip for some other meth addict. I'm sad to say that Uncle Phillip passed away this week and our family is deeply saddened by his passing. It breaks my heart to hear/read such degrading remarks about Uncle Phillip, who clearly had love in his heart for everyone. He may have chosen a different path in life diferent from you and I but he was deeply loved and cared for by his family. The public assumed he was crazy and homeless which is clearly incorrect considering he had a home in Hamoa. And for those of you who know Hamoa it is a place full of richness and tranquility. During his many years as a minister, he crossed paths with hundreds of people whose lives he changed. He was a beautiful, strong Hawaiian man whom we will miss terribly. He leaves behind two wonderful children who he loved and cherished. Uncle Phillip is one of seven children who are all devestated by his death and we have spent the last week remebering all the beautiful memories that he has left us with. He was full of life and love which allowed him to be accepting of anyone. Uncle Phillip was not crazy nor homeless. And he was absolutely not a drug addict! I am the daughter of one of his brothers and I am one of many nieces and nephews who will deeply miss him.

He was there this past February 08. Added some weight on him, but his varicose veins are more pronounced now.

Yep, a little older, but still there, same spot, usually in the mid morning/noon time. We've been seeing him since our first trip in 1990, sometimes he has a partner strumming a guitar.

Amazing! I was so often in Lahaina since I took this image, and I never saw him again!
Thanks for the hint, next time I will try to make a current image of him. I always like observe passage of time in myself and others...

You said you took this pic in 1992-1993?
Well, as of June 2006 this guy is still there every day around noon, right in front of the Banyan Tree in Lahaina.
