The lighthouse was built in 1848 and usually was the first sight of Australia which people had after leaving England a couple of month ago.
During the early years of its existance it was still surrounded be hugh, dense rainforest. This changed quickly, when looging started to provide timber for the fast growing city of Melbourne.
