A December day on the Cowichan River, cool, slightly overcast and with a feeling of settling in for the coming winter storms. An eagle watched as various species of ducks searched for food along the river bottom. In winter, the river also hosts large numbers of Trumpeter Swans, short eared owls and Northern Harriers. During the salmon run you can also spot both Steller and California Sea Lions.
