The Cowichan River is one of our favourite places to visit and is recognized as both a British Columbia Heritage River and a Canadian Heritage River. The Cowichan area was the cradle of an ancient and prosperous First Nations civilization and in its natural cultural heritage it was know as "Khowutzun", the land warmed by the sun. The river is an endless resource for photographers with an abundance of wildlife, tree lined banks and stretches of water varying from swift rapids to waterfalls, to wide, slow channels.
