The Sombrero Galaxy

Georgia

The Sombrero galaxy is a lenticular galaxy located about 31 million light years from Earth, in the direction of the constellation Virgo. It has a prominent dust lane around the outer edge, and a very prominent central bulge, giving it the appearance of a sombrero when viewed from Earth. Astronomers have now determined that there is a super-massive black hole at the center of the Sombrero galaxy.

This image was acquired with an 8" newtonian reflector telescope connected to an ASI071MC Pro camera, on the night of el Cinco de Mayo (5-May-2019), from the deck behind my house.
