Ankara Anatolian Civilizations Urartian Cauldron Bronze june 2019 3379.jpg

Close-up of a cauldron. Urartian, 720-700 B.C. Halka-style.
Excavated from the Big Tumulus in Gordion (which is a royal Phrygian tomb).

[Do note: though found in a Phrygian tomb I transferred this object to the Urartian sub-gallery because of where it was made - D.O.]

Made from a single piece of hammered bronze. Around the mouth are four cast human-headed birds set opposite one another.

Correspondent: J.M.Criel, Antwerpen.
