Underwater Pond Mystery ~ Jan 1st, 2006

The ice on the pond has melted and the sun finally peeked out from behind the clouds. The pond was just a little murky on Jan 1st, I saw this strange object and went to investigate. It's normal for branches, leaves, misc woods debris to wash down from the creek. But this was completely mystifying to me. This one (there was another similar but smaller piece) was about 5'-6'long. Since I'd couldn't reach it to drag it out, I decided to try to capture the detail using the macro mode and a circular polarizer. What does it look like to you? I have a theory, but Frank says my imagination is running overtime.

It's a good thing I took them yesterday, it poured last night and now the pond is filled with muddy water. The pond will probably freeze over before it clears up again and I don't think the object will fit in our overflow pipe. It may be spring before the mystery can be solved.

Update: The pond is almost empty...it must have been tree debris and leaf litter. :)
