April 21st - Both Mallard and Wood Ducks are still visiting...guess the Mallards haven't nested yet.
April 17th - Many thanks to Tammie for the explanation of the 'Third Eyelid' I have been seeing on the Mallard drake!
April 16th - The Mallard pair visited the majority of the day, appearing to test different nesting sites. The hen would sit for a while with the drake always close by. (as was the snapping turtle at one site, it was within 10'). He must be getting weary of this search...I caught him napping...and didn't know he had white eyelids!
April 13th - My attempt to capture nightly ritual of the Mallard and Wood Duck pairs. Mallard hen rests on edge of the pond, with the drake close by. When the Wood Ducks start to dabble in the shallow part, the Mallard drake chases the Wood Ducks up on the hill! They are usually here between 7-8 pm, almost dark, I used the tripod and got some mediocre shots.
April 12th - Big surprise today! two pairs of Wood Ducks showed up for a hour or so this morning. It appeared they were waiting for the Mallards to show up. Later in the day the Mallards came, but there were no Wood Ducks around.
