Mallard and Wood Ducks ~ Apr 6th, 7th, 8th - 2006

April 8th - In the AM - Raindrops are falling on our heads! Tripod was used because it was so dark...shot through the window again. Even with the tripod, one photo still suffered from motion blur and shake, so I played. :) In the PM - The Mallards came back, as well as the Wood Ducks. Both pairs were here last night for a couple of hours before dark.
April 7th - The Mallard pair and the Wood Duck pair showed up at the same time! First the Mallards...while I was taking a picture of them, the Wood Ducks. There seemed to be quite a bit territorial disputing going on; both the drakes and hens of each pair were chasing each other. The Wood Ducks left, we had a thunderstorm, the Wood Ducks came back.
April 6th - The pair of Mallards are becoming regular visitors now, I was even able to take some pictures outside.

We have had a hen and a drake come to our yard for approximately 3 weeks. One week ago
2 drakes had a fight over the hen. since that time we have seen alternately a hen,
a drake and a hen and drake. Tonight a hen was by herself, when another hen and
drake flew in. Immediately the drake either attacked or was trying to mate with the
other hen. As novices to this procedure we were not sure weather the drake was
attacking. The hen did not seem responsive at all. We scared them off and we saw a
pair flying for the next ten minutes. Since there is no evidence of ofspring we are
unsure of what type of behavior is entailed.

If anyone can give insight to this situation we would appreciate it.
