This granite massif (4,095 m) is a looming presence cloaked with a gown of dense forest and with its top often hidden in cloud. On a clear day, its presence is strongly felt even from the heart of the city of Kota Kinabalu 55 kilometres away. I have a photo of that perspective, but it is unduly hazy. Gunung (Mt) Kinabalu is the centrepiece of the 75,400 ha Kinabalu Park, a national park that ranges from a hundred or so metres above sea level to the mountain summit.
Climbing the mountain is for younger souls than we. But we explored the mid-slopes (1,500 - 2000 m ASL) for two days, staying in a quiet lodge just outside the park.
What a tremendous selection of photos from this remarkable place. I had wanted to visit Mt. Kinabalu, but that didn't happen! Your photos make me wish I had. V
