This gallery is the story of an 8-week back-packing journey through far northern Thailand and the north-west of Laos in Nov. 2007 to Jan. 2008. In parts, the journey was conventional – rented car and well-known destinations – and in part it was an adventure well off the beaten track. In Laos we started with the great two-day adventure of the Slow Boat on the mighty Mekong River from the Thai border downstream to the beautiful small city of Luang Prabang. From there, we headed by boat (mostly) and bus into the far north-west of the country, a highlight being a precarious two-day canoe trip down the Nam Fa (Fa River) to a village where most of the inhabitats had never met Europeans before.

The journey begins and ends in the city of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. Photos are presented in sequence as taken though heavily culled. Reflecting my photographic and professional interests, the emphasis is on landscapes and vegetation, but there’s more besides …. hope you enjoy.
