Local residents can be seen down the beach collecting eggs from the beginning of the "arribadas". These eggs would probably have been destroyed by subsequent nestings in the next several nights. In turn, the local residents protect the beach during the remainder of the "arribadas" from poaching and predators. Nesting success rates have climbed dramatically since this policy has been instituted.
