Also in Hebei, Chengde Mountain Resort ( 承德避暑山莊) was originally a summer palace and retreat for the Qing Royal Family. It is the largest existing imperial palace, resort and garden in China. We did not tour the summer palace area, but went to see Putuo Zongcheng Temple instead. The nearby Putuo Zongcheng Temple, inspired by the architecture of Potala Palace in Tibet, covers the largest area of the Eight Outer Temples around the summer residence.
