Thanks to all for your comments.

I visited an old smithie and museum over the weekend - Merv was a volunteer there and when asked to be photographed he gladly obliged. No studio and no reflector - just natural light from an open door and a little interior light - hence the 800 iso.

Merv was so full of stories of his life's experiences - it was hard not to take a good photo.
